Hawthorne Elementary rings in holidays at family fun and food extravaganza
From a bouncy house and karaoke to crafting pencil holders from recycled cans, the Friends of Hawthorne parent-teacher group proved once again that getting the school's families together for a holiday shopping bazaar morphs into a day of fun for all.
The Winter Bazaar event, held Saturday, Dec. 3, featured fabulous food, including fresh-baked goods and delicious homemade ethnic treats - celebrating the rich diversity of the Hawthorne community.
Hawthorne is having two other fun events in the weeks ahead:
Literacy Night, scheduled for 6 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 8, will feature "Where's Elmo!?" a hunt for Principal Sandra Scott's famous Elmo Doll. Students will read clues that will lead them and their families around the building to help solve the mystery. Guests can watch student dancing and singing performances, which will include the Voices of Hawthorne school choir. There will also be snacks for all in this fun family event.
Open gym for prospective kindergartners, is scheduled 1-4 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012, at the school gymnasium. The open gym event is a chance for Hawthorne's kindergarten teachers and parents to talk to Principal Sandra Scott and Business Officer Eileen Gray while kids play, tumble and wheel around or visit the arts and crafts table.
