Franklin, Interagency Academy students to present 'Read With Me' performances Nov. 18, 19
Students from Franklin High School and the Interagency Academy will be holding two "Read With Me" public performances Nov. 18 and 19 that explores the concerns and the joy that young people experience around reading.
The event is presented by UMO Ensemble, a physical theater company arts education program that serves students at the two schools.
UMO Ensemble’s "Read With Me" is a creative literacy program that elicits students’ positive and negative experiences with reading through theater workshops and the development of original performance pieces.
The workshops and rehearsals – a blend of acting improvisation, ensemble exercises, and storytelling – are a safe and stimulating learning space in which students make discoveries about their relationship to reading.
The "Read With Me" program began with a pilot project in spring 2011, with in-school workshops at Franklin High and Interagency Academy. A brief rehearsal period culminated in a staged reading and sharing event at Beacon Hill Library.
