Lawton Elementary students opt for fewer sweets, donate Halloween candy
Lawton Elementary students opted for less sweets during Halloween and brought in 722 pounds of candy which will be donated to "Operation Bald Eagle," a nonprofit organization that serves police, fire and military veterans.
The goal of Lawton's Halloween Candy Challenge was to encourage students to eat fewer candy throughout the year and select healthy food choices.
Cheryl Parks, Lawton's Physical Education Specialist, said Lawton staff also helped with the Halloween Candy Challenge by donating $440 to the food bank.
Over the last eight years, the school donated 4,290 pounds of candy and raised $3,838 for food banks.
