Seattle Public Schools participates in City Campus pre-apprenticeship program
After a brief hiatus, Seattle Public Schools is once again a participant in the City Campus "Careers and Workplace Exploration in the Skilled Trades (CWEST)" pre-apprenticeship program – along with the Port of Seattle, Seattle City Light and the city of Seattle.
Through the years, CWEST graduates from many different Seattle high schools have entered apprenticeship programs as carpenters, electricians, plumbers, pipe fitters, painters, operating engineers and mechanics. Many of the students have gone on to careers in the trades.
In spring 2012, up to six CWEST students will do pre-apprenticeship internships. There are paid internships available for one gardener, three mechanical coordinators and one resource conservation specialist.
CWEST also has openings for next fall semester. Interested students can fill out the application and meet with their counselor. If the course can fit into their schedule, the application is submitted to Myrna Muto at mmuto@seattleschools.org. More information and the City Campus application can be found at City Campus.
