Green Team Support

<<back to Conservation Programs: Overview

Purpose

Support schools that encourage a culture of conservation and environmentally responsible behaviors.

How it works

1. Apply for Green Team Funding in Fall.  (The 2012/13 deadline has passed.  Please check back next year.)
2. If approved, funding will be transferred to the school "Utility Conservation" account in Winter.
3. Get your school Green Team organized (or re-energized).
4. Work on your chosen Focus Category (energy, waste, or water).
5. Get certified!

2012/13 Green Team Funding Recipients

A total of $27,600 was shared with the 37 schools that applied for Green Team funding in winter 2012/13.  Since the program began two years ago, 51 schools have received Green Team funding for one or more years. District wide energy use, water use and solid waste decreased again last year when compared to the previous year.  This funding supported conservation at the school level, by allowing schools to invest in promotional materials, Green Team meeting support, field trips, staff time, building equipment, Self Help projects and/or teacher training.  As part of their Green Team work schools are conducting an assessment of their school in one of the three categories above (Energy Efficiency, Recycling & Waste Reduction, or Water Quality & Conservation) in order to identify opportunities for improved conservation.
New: Each Green Team will also receive a free Chinook Book and mobile app (a $35 value)!
