Greenwood Elementary celebrates Harvest of the Month
Greenwood Elementary students helped celebrate Washington Grown, Harvest of the Month in September, a program that showcases Washington grown items. The program promotes healthy eating habits by offering students a daily variety of fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains and low-fat dairy products. The featured local food item for September was the plum. For October, the featured item is the cucumber.
Greenwood also helped celebrate Taste Washington Day on Sept. 28 in which students had an opportunity to feast on plums as part of their school lunch. A bulletin board in the Greenwood cafeteria described where the featured item is grown, how it helps your body and included other fun facts. Teachers also receive monthly educator’s fliers with classroom activities and nutritional facts.
The District’s Harvest of the Month program is funded through a Seattle-King County Department of Health, Communities Putting Prevention to Work grant.
