Madison Middle School wins state career awareness and exploration award
Madison Middle School has been selected as having the most outstanding career awareness and exploration program in Washington state. The school was selected winner of the Career Awareness and Exploration Award from the National Consortium for State Guidance Leadership. Madison will now compete for the national award.
Under the leadership of Lauren Divina, head of the Counseling Department, the counselors at Madison led several schoolwide programs, including:
• using Navigation 101, a life-skills and planning program to help students for life after high school;
• tracking academic progress and alignment with self-knowledge and career interests;
• helping to increase student participation in career-awareness activities;
• linking the school's eighth-graders with West Seattle High School for their High School and Beyond Plan; and
• hosting a Career Day with many local business leaders.
