Washington Middle School student wins regional spelling bee, advances to national

Deanta Kelly, a Washington Middle School student, won the Regional Spelling Bee for King and Snohomish Counties March 13 and will advance to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. Deanta won in the 18th round with the word "obfuscatory." Bee Week will be May 29 through June 3 at the Gaylord National Hotel. Round 1 will be May 30, and Rounds 2 and 3 will be June 1. The semifinals and championship finals will be held June 2.
