Bryant Elementary’s “Aqua” team and Thurgood Marshall’s “Silver Falcons” team are the City Final winners in the 2011 Global Reading Challenge. The teams – who competed March 29 against eight other teams from Seattle Public Schools – will advance to the Video Conference Final with Canada scheduled for 10 a.m., Friday, April 15, at the John Stanford Center.
The Global Reading Challenge is a Seattle Public Library Battle of the Books program for 4th- and 5th-graders enrolled in the Seattle Public Schools. The program encourages children to have fun and enjoy the sport of reading. After reading 10 books, students compete in a "Quiz Bowl" game to determine the winner for the city of Seattle. The winning Seattle team takes home the Global Reading Challenge traveling trophy and goes on to a videoconference challenge between Seattle and Fraser Valley and Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada
