Budget Development 2011-12
Because of severe state funding deficits, Seattle Public Schools faced a very challenging budgeting process for the 2011-12 school year. The state cut funding to the District by about $32 million in the previous two years. A substantial budget gap (decreased revenues and increased costs) was projected for 2011-12. The size of the estimated budget gap fluctuated as we received information about how much funds the state would give us – and as we refined revenue and cost estimates.

School Board Work Sessions
As part of the budget development and approval processs, District staff and the School Board typically hold work sessions from November to June. The Superintendent recommends a budget to the Board in mid-June. After a public hearing, the Board votes on the budget in July. Below is information on the 2011-12 budget work sessions.
