Appeals Court rules in District's favor regarding high school math textbooks

March 29, 2011 | Audience: Families, Community, Staff | Contact: Communications, (206) 252-0200

The Washington State Court of Appeals ruled on Monday in favor of Seattle Public Schools and reversed an earlier King County Superior Court case that ordered the Seattle School Board to review its decision to adopt Key Press high school math textbooks.

"We are pleased that the State Court of Appeals recognized that it is the role of the School Board to select textbooks for our students," said Seattle School Board President Steve Sundquist.

"In adopting the textbooks, we followed state law, which requires extensive review of proposed textual materials and included the input of many different stakeholders – experts, teachers, principals and the public. In the end, the board made its decision based on the results of the review that was conducted."
