2020 Facilities Master Plan

The Seattle Public Schools adopted a facilities master plan on March 26, 2008 - the 2020 Facilities Master Plan.  The primary focus of the Facilities Master Plan is to concentrate on major renovations, and building replacements while simultaneously addressing deferred maintenance projects in other school buildings. The FMP was updated following initial research, data gathering, and community input. Also, School Board work sessions on the FMP were held on January 23 and February 27 of 2008.

Planning for 2020 Facilities Master Plan (Archive from 2009 Website)

The Seattle Public School District is in the process of updating the existing Facilities Master Plan.  The planning process is an aggressive effort to outline a systematic schedule of improving Seattle School facilities. In addition, this document brings together major School District policies, studies, and documents into one document that affect District facilities and guide in the future direction of capital construction projects (BEX/BTA), facility use, re-use, re-purpose, and/or closure.

The primary focus of this policy document is to concentrate on major renovations, and building replacements while simultaneously addressing deferred maintenance (i.e. health, safety, HVAC/MEP systems, and roofs) projects in the other school buildings. By design, the focus of the Facilities Master Plan shifts Seattle Public Schools building improvement efforts from a reactive repair program to a proactive renovation/building replacement program.

Here is a brief process and timeline for the Facilities Master Plan and Study & Survey.

A facilities survey was conducted in the fall of 2007.  The District received 239 responses for 45 elementary, middle, K-8, high, and alternative schools.  Here are the survey results:  Early Input - 2020 Facilities Master Plan Survey Results
