Major step reached in transition to new Seattle Public Schools website; more Web pages, links, content, tools added Jan. 28

January 24, 2011 | Audience: Families, Community, Staff | Contact: Communications, (206) 252-0200

On Jan. 28, Seattle Public Schools will take another major step in its transition to a new website - one that is easier, faster, and more intuitive to navigate.

The Jan. 28 transition is a major step in the improvement of the District website. In December 2010, Seattle Public Schools invited families, staff and the community to preview the District's updated website which featured a new design, improved Web-based tools and easier-to-navigate Web pages. In the next phase on Jan. 28, significant new tools will be available – such as the ability to synchronize a personal mobile calendar with the District calendar, and a tool that will automatically translate Web page into Cantonese, Spanish and Vietnamese.

Many of the links from the old website will be automatically redirected to the new website. Also, more content areas will be available and accessible through the new website.

Visitors will see even more improvements in the months ahead:
• Beginning in February, the website management system will be available Districtwide giving all schools equitable access to the website and online teaching tools
• Throughout the spring, the District will continue to add content to the new website in anticipation of the complete transition to the new site
• When the transition is complete, the new site will provide more functional search capabilities, allowing users to more easily find the content they’re looking for
• In the long term, the new website will act as a more efficient communications platform that will save District time and resources, focusing more of both in the classroom.

Seattle Public Schools is committed to making this transition to the new website as smooth as possible with minimal impact to users. If you are having trouble finding what you’re looking for, please don’t hesitate to:
