Food, music, fun at Eat Real Festival at Montlake Elementary May 31
Eat Real - Montlake, a culinary festival aimed at supporting Montlake Elementary School’s Greenhouse and Sustainability Program, will take place from 5-9 p.m., Friday, May 31 on the Montlake Elementary playground.
Open to the public, Eat Real will feature a night of handmade food, whole-grain bread-making and salad demonstrations, an all home-made bake sale, tours of the school’s greenhouse and gardens, a small farmer’s market, a plant starts and garden tools sale, and cookbook sales. Also on tap will be an opportunity to give back to the Montlake Elementary Greenhouse through a raffle of a raised bed of summer salad greens, herbs and vegetables. Raffle tickets will be available upon entry to the event.
In addition, live music will be provided by Apollo 8, an ‘80s cover band.
Eat Real - Montlake is supported by curriculum from Food Day, a nationwide celebration of more healthy, affordable and sustainable food. The event is also receiving support from the Seattle Chapter of Les Dames d’Escoffier and the Montlake Elementary PTSA.
“By educating and supporting healthy eating habits, Eat Real - Montlake hopes to raise community awareness of good eating practices, teach kids to choose healthy food over processed, and bring the neighborhood together for an evening of deliciousness, live music and fun,” said Montlake Elementary parent and event organizer Sarah Gannholm.
Montlake Elementary is located at 2409 22nd Ave. E. in Seattle.
