About our District
Seattle Public Schools is the largest K-12 school system in Washington state, serving more than 49,870 students in 95 schools. We have a staff of about 8,000 which includes about 3,100 teachers. About 227 of the teachers are Nationally Board Certified.
Academic Vision
We are focused on improving academic achievement for all students and committed to ensuring that all students graduate from high school prepared for college, careers, and life. We strive to provide excellent teachers in every classroom, set high expectations for every student, meet the needs of our diverse learners, and prepare our students to excel.
Superintendent José Banda
José L. Banda was appointed Superintendent of Seattle Public Schools in May 2012, and started on July 1, 2012. He brings over 30 years of experience in the field of education. Mr. Banda is fluent in Spanish and holds a Bachelor of Arts from California State University in Bakersfield and a master’s in Educational Leadership from Chapman University.

Seattle School Board
The Seattle School Board of Directors is an elected body of seven citizens representing seven different regions. Each member serves four years. They are elected by district in the primary elections and at-large (city-wide) in the general elections of odd-numbered years.
