At the regular board meeting on December 2, the 2016 board officers were selected. Director Betty Patu will serve as board president, Director Sue Peters will serve as vice president and Director Leslie Harris will serve as member-at-large.

The new members come to the board with a diverse range of professional backgrounds. Pinkham, representing District 1, is assistant director of diversity and access at the University of Washington's College of Engineering. Burke, representing District 2, is president and engineering manager at Thermetrics, LLC. Geary, representing District 3, is a former administrative law judge, education attorney and regional presenter of education law. Harris, representing District 6, is a litigation paralegal.

The Board of Directors for Seattle Public Schools is an elected body of seven citizens representing geographical regions, known as districts, within the City of Seattle. The length of each member's term is four years. Directors are elected by district in the primary elections and at-large (city-wide) in the general elections of odd-numbered years.
