    How Students Log into Naviance

Available at the end of September 2018, students in 8th through 12th grade can log into Naviance through the Seattle Public Schools’ student portal. Counselors will introduce Naviance tools to students during the school day.

Student Data and Opt Out Information

The district thoroughly vetted Naviance’s policies and practices with respect to preserving data security and student privacy. Families can still choose to opt their students out of using this tool. Read more about Naviance’s commitment to data security and student privacy.

For students to utilize the college application support tools in Naviance, some student demographic and academic records need to be shared. This may include gender, ethnicity, and transcripts. Students will also have the opportunity to add information about themselves when developing their high school and beyond plan and using other college and career exploratory resources within the Naviance tool.

Seattle Public Schools will be using Naviance to deliver high school and beyond plan lessons in grades 8-12. The high school and beyond plan is a graduation requirement. By opting out of Naviance, your student will be opting out of this curriculum and will be given an alternative activity to meet the high school and beyond plan graduation requirement. Please note the alternative activity will be limited to the minimum requirements for Washington state.

    Opt-Out Window

The first opt out window for Fall 2018 was open from June 4 until June 22, 2018.

A second window will open September 4 through September 19. Once the second opt-out window opens, parents and guardians can opt out their 8th - 12th grade student out of Naviance by updating your preferences in the Source.

Families of students in grades 6 and 7 will be notified in December 2018 about the January 2019 opt out window.

What happens if a family misses the opt-out window?

The opt out window will open annually in the fall. If a family misses this window, they can contact the SPS Naviance team for accommodations at naviance@seattleschools.org

If you need a way to opt out other than through the Source, please call 206-743-3600 or email naviance@seattleschools.org and we will provide an alternate accommodation for you.
