Growth Boundaries for Elementary and Middle Schools

For high school boundary changes, scroll down.

Growth boundaries are changes to elementary and middle school attendance area boundaries* designed to balance student enrollment. They are necessary because of growth in the number of students enrolled in Seattle Public Schools. The district is also growing the space available for students by building new or replacement schools, modernizing and opening closed buildings, and constructing additions at some schools.

Boundary changes for many attendance area elementary and middle schools were approved by the School Board in 2013 as part of the Growth Boundaries project. These changes are scheduled to be implemented over six years, from 2014 through 2019. You can review the upcoming changes for each year by using the links on the left.

Boundary changes for additional attendance area elementary schools will be developed and implemented when additional school capacity becomes available by opening schools or building additions.

High School Boundary Changes in 2019-20

There will be boundary changes to high schools in the 2019-20 school year when Lincoln High School opens and a building addition at Ingraham High School is completed. Community open houses to share information on proposed high school boundaries are scheduled for October and November 2017. More about high school boundary changes.

*An attendance area school is the school to which students in elementary, middle and high-school are assigned, based on where they live. You can look up the attendance area schools for your address using the Address Lookup Tool.

How to check on approved boundary changes for your attendance area school

Click on your attendance area school in the table below to go to the year when approved boundary changes go into effect. If your attendance area elementary, K-8 or middle school is not listed, boundary changes are not scheduled at your school.

    Middle schools

High schools were not included in the 2013 Growth Boundaries project. However, because the two high schools in West Seattle have boundaries aligned with the middle schools, there are boundary changes for Chief Sealth International and West Seattle high schools. We will begin reviewing high school boundaries in 2017.
