New Approved Bus Arrival and Departure Times for 2009-2010

At the June 3 School Board meeting, School Board directors voted to approve new bus arrival and departure times for the 2009-10 school year which will change the start and end times for all schools.

This action was in response to new transportation service standards for the District that were adopted by the School Board on March 18. We heard from families that they preferred earlier start times to ensure that all elementary students are picked up and dropped off when it is light enough for outdoor activities (Civil Twilight Hours). Based on that feedback we proposed a revised schedule of earlier start times for all schools by 10-15 minutes.

The changes in transportation service standards will: reduce ride times for many students, provide more consistency and reliability in schedules, and improve consistency of drivers on each route. These changes mean that Seattle Public Schools will transport the same number of students with 49 fewer buses, saving fuel and reducing the District's carbon footprint, while also maximizing operational efficiency and reducing transportation costs by $2.2 million.
