Saturday
Programs
Reminder: No classes
will be held Saturday, November 28.
Two
Saturday sessions are offered during the school year. There must be
at least nine students enrolled to hold a class at a school.
Tentative locations are Ballard, Franklin, Nathan Hale and West
Seattle high schools. Students may register
to attend a Saturday program at a school that is convenient for
them.
Registration is
completed by mail. Blue mail-in packets will be available at the
high schools in counseling offices, the Traffic Education office
and some private schools when students return in September. The
Traffic Education office does not mail out individual registration
packets. Do not return your registration packet to a school. Mail
to the address printed on the blue envelope.
This
program involves a commitment of 15 Saturdays. Six Saturdays will
be four-hour days to include driving instruction. A calendar
showing classroom and driving days is given to students on the
first day.
Confirmation
information will not be mailed out until it is certain that a
school will hold a class. If registrations are slow to come in, a
decision to hold a class may not be made until the Thursday before
the start date to allow for late applications. In that case
students will receive a telephone call giving the information
needed for the first classroom. If the class will not be held and
your second school choice is not available, you will be notified by
telephone.
Nathan Hale meets from
8:00 to 10:00 a.m. with driving scheduled after class on six
Saturdays. Ballard, Franklin and West Seattle all meet from 10:00
a.m. to 12:00 noon. Some students will drive before class on their
drive days, some after class. If the student needs to be finished
with class and driving by noon, include a note when submitting the
registration packet. If a student cannot be to class before 10:00
a.m. (e.g., swimming programs, etc.) let us know that as well. We
will try to accommodate the student's schedule. If
enrollment numbers are large enough, an 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. class
may be added at Franklin and West Seattle.
Permit applications
are distributed the first classroom day to students who have paid
their tuition in full.
Fall classes
begin September 26, 2009 and end January 23, 2010.
Registrations will be accepted for the fall session beginning in
September and until classes are full.)
Spring classes
begin February 6 and end June 5. Registrations for the
spring session will not be accepted until the first week of
January.
The
Traffic Education program provides cars for driving sessions.
Students must provide their own transportation to and from the
school. A $55.00 fee will be charged if a student misses the final
drive session (the final test).
Grade/Credit
Option
During the first week
of class, Seattle Public Schools students will be given the option
of receiving either a letter grade for .25 credit or a pass/no
credit mark. Course grades appear on students' official school
transcripts.
