2009 - 2010 School Year

For information about individual programs, please see menu to the left.

General Information

Traffic Education Fee - $559.00

Tuition for all 2009-2010 programs is $559.00 (e.g., after-school, Saturday, and summer programs). Students who successfully finish a traffic education course will receive a certificate of completion. It must be presented to the Department of Licensing before the driving portion of the licensing test will be scheduled.

Course Repeat Fees

These fees apply to students who have previously taken the course through the Seattle Public Schools and need to repeat either the classroom portion or behind-the-wheel driving sessions - or both.

There will be a $55.00 charge if a student misses the final drive session (final test) and it has to be rescheduled.

Additional driving sessions (outside of the usual instruction time) are available for $55.00 an hour.

A person wanting to get a Washington State driver license before the age of 18 years must successfully complete a certified driver-training course. Students who are at least 15 years of age by the first day of class may register for a traffic safety education program. All students must be able to obtain an Instruction Permit through the Department of Licensing. If there is a potential legal, medical, or vision problem that might prohibit the student from getting a permit, check with the DOL before registering for a class. Paid students will be given an Application for Instruction Permit. This will allow them to get a permit without having to take the written test at the DOL until after the course has been successfully completed.

Students in after-school programs are provided with session calendars by the second classroom day. Saturday and Summer program students receive their calendars on the first classroom day. Calendars are marked showing classroom and driving days. Schedules follow the Seattle School District calendar, e.g., if school is not in session, traffic education programs do not meet. Please see Saturday and Private School information below for their schedules.

Programs will be held at a school based on sufficient enrollment. All programs consist of 30 hours of classroom instruction and 6 hours of behind-the-wheel driving time.

Forms and registration information for all Seattle Public Schools programs are available in high school counseling offices. Private schools that offer our program will also have registration forms.

There must be at least nine students enrolled to hold a class at a school. PLEASE NOTE THAT MEETING DAYS ARE SUBJET TO CHANGE DUE TO AVAILABILITY OF INSTRUCTORS. Schedules may have to be altered due to inclement weather.

Grade / Credit Option

During the first week of class, Seattle Public Schools students will be given the option of receiving either a letter grade for .25 credit or a pass/no credit mark. Course grades appear on official transcripts.
