After-school Programs

2009-2010 classes will start at Seattle School District high schools in September, November, January and April. Tentative locations are Ballard, Franklin, Hale, Ingraham, the Meany Building, Roosevelt, Sealth and West Seattle schools. Classes will be held at a school based on sufficient enrollment. All programs consist of 30 hours of classroom instruction and 6 hours of behind-the-wheel driving. The course is nine weeks. Classes start 10 or 15 minutes after the last class of the school day.

Registration days are held after school one week prior to the start of class. Students must attend a registration session taking the full tuition amount and a signed permission form or they will not be enrolled. Forms and schedule information are in the Counseling Office at all the high schools.

Registration Days

  • Session 1--Tuesday, September 15
  • Session 2--Thursday, November 12
  • Session 3--Tuesday, January 26
  • Session 4--Wednesday, April 7

Program Dates---Classes are not held when school is not in session, e.g. national holidays, during winter, mid-winter and spring breaks, teacher professional development days. If schools are closed due to inclement weather, no classes will be held.

  • Session 1: From the week of September 21 to the week of November 9
  • Session 2: From the week of November 16 to the week January 18
  • Session 3: From the week of February 1 to the week of April 5
  • Session 4: From the week of April 12 to the week of June 7

Please note that locations and meeting days are subject to change due to availability of teachers and classroom space. Schedules may have to be altered due to inclement weather.

Update: November 4, 2009 - No classses will be held at Garfield this session.

  • Ballard--meets Mondays and Tuesdays--2:50 to 4:50 p.m. Room S-107
  • Franklin--meets Mondays and Wednesdays--3:15 to 5:15 p.m. Please note change in classroom meeting days and meeting time. Room 32
  • Meany Building--this location can serve students in the greater-Garfield area--meets Mondays and Wednesdays--3:15 to 5:15 p.m. Room 9
  • Nathan Hale--meets Tuesdays and Thursdays--3:15 to 5:15 p.m. (if enough students, a 5:15 to 7:15 p.m. class will be added) Portable 8
  • Ingraham--meets Mondays and Wednesdays--2:45 to 4:45 p.m. Room 115
  • Roosevelt--meets Mondays and Wednesdays--2:50 to 4:50 p.m. Room 133
  • Sealth at Boren--meets Mondays and Wednesdays--2:50 to 4:50 p.m. P-303
  • West Seattle--meets Tuesdays and Thursdays--2:45 to 4:45 p.m. Room 139

PLEASE NOTE THAT MEETING DAYS ARE SUBJET TO CHANGE DUE TO AVAILABILITY OF INSTRUCTORS. Schedules may have be altered due to inclement weather.Behind-the-wheel driving instruction begins the second week of class and is usually held on a third weekday; some students may drive after one of their classroom meeting days (e.g., Mondays, after class). If a student is not available for driving on a particular day because of sports, a job, etc. make a note on the registration/permission form stating the day and reason. Special requests must be made on registration day. We will try to accommodate the student's schedule. Calendars noting classroom and driving days will be given to students by the second classroom day.

Grade / Credit Option

During the first week of class, Seattle Public Schools students will be given the option of receiving either a letter grade for .25 credit or a pass/no credit mark. Course grades appear on students' official transcripts.Updated: November 4, 2009
