2009: Class of 2013 Math Academy
A Partnership with
Atlantic Street Center
- Eligibility: Current Seattle School
District 8th grade students who are not at standard in mathematics.
Students who scored level I or level II on the 7th grade Math WASL
are eligible.
- Referral: Beginning April 10th, middle
school and K-8 school staff will refer eligible students for the
Class of 2013 Math Academy. Letters will be sent home to families
of referred students.
- Enrollment: Families complete, sign, and
return to the Summer School Office a form that includes summer
contact information. The Summer School Office enrolls the student
and sends the list of students to the Transportation
Department.
- Transportation/Parent Notification: The
Transportation Department will notify enrolled families of their
student’s yellow bus transportation schedule.
- Dates: Classes start Monday, July 6th and
Thursday, July 30th is the last day for students.
- Daily Schedule: Classes are held Monday
through Friday from 8:30-2:30 PM (includes free Breakfast and Lunch
sponsored by the City of Seattle Summer Food Service
Program)
- Partnership: Atlantic Street Center will
be providing classroom tutors and learning enrichment activities.
The enrichment activities are schedule between 12:35 and 2:30pm
each day.
- Site: Aki Kurose Middle
School
- Curriculum Materials: Teachers will use
the MESA materials for classroom instruction. Teacher training and
onsite coaching is provided by the UW MESA Program.
