Summer Semester 2009: High School Credit Retrieval

  • Eligibility: Seattle School District students that did not pass a class required for graduation or a student that is new to the district and missed taking a required class.
  • Referral: Beginning April 10th, high school counselors refer eligible and interested students for Summer Semester credit retrieval. The counselor selects one .5 credit class that the student needs to take from the list courses offered for credit retrieval. Letters will be sent home to families of referred students that includes the course and high school site. The referral period ended on May 26th.
  • Enrollment: Families complete, sign, and return a form that includes summer contact information to the Summer School Office. The Summer School Office enrolls the student and assigns the student to a classroom.
  • Transportation: Enrolled students will be provided Metro bus tokens beginning with the afternoon of July 6th. Families are responsible for the student’s getting to school on Monday morning, July 6th.
  • Dates: Classes start Monday, July 6th. The last day of classes for students is Thursday, July 30th.
  • Daily Schedule: Classes are held Monday through Friday from 8:20-12:30 PM. Free Breakfast is available from 8:00-8:20am and the Lunch is from 12:30-1:00pm. (Provided by the City of Seattle Summer Food Service Program)
  • Sites: Cleveland HS, Garfield HS, Roosevelt HS, and West Seattle HS.
  • Courses: The following courses are offered for credit retrieval. Some courses are scheduled at one or two sites. Biology I, Physical Science, Health Education, Math (1A, 1B, 2A, 2B, 3A and 3B), LA (9A, 9B, 10A, 10B, 11A, and 11B), American Government/Economics, US History (11A and 11B), and World History (1, 2, and 3)
  • SBOC: The Secondary Bilingual Orientation Center Program will be held at Cleveland HS and students are enrolled by the Bilingual Education Department. Students will receive Metro bus tokens.
