Summer Semester 2009:
Elementary
- Eligibility: Students who are not on
target to meet reading and math standards in 2nd, 3rd and 5th grade
as measured by the WASL or District assessments.
- Referral: Beginning April 10th, each
elementary school will refer eligible students for Summer Semester
using the Source. Letters will be sent home to families of referred
students.
- Enrollment: Families complete, sign, and
return to school a form that includes summer contact information.
Schools send the forms to the Summer School Office. The Summer
School Office enrolls the student and sends the list of students to
the Transportation Department. The Enrollment period ended on
May 29th.
- Transportation/Parent Notification: The
Transportation Department will notify enrolled families of their
student’s assigned Summer Semester site and yellow bus
schedule.
- Dates: Classes start Monday, July 6th and
Thursday, July 30th is the last day for students.
- Daily Schedule: Classes are held Monday
through Friday from 8:30-12:30 PM (includes free Breakfast and
Lunch sponsored by the City of Seattle Summer Food Service
Program)
- Sites: Brighton, Fairmount Park, Gatzert,
Madrona, Olympic View, and ORCA
- Curriculum Materials:
Students will receive daily math and reading instruction. Teachers
will use the Summer Success Math and Reading curriculum
materials.
- EBOC: The Elementary Bilingual
Orientation Center is scheduled at Gatzert and ORCA. Students are
enrolled by the Bilingual Education Department. Please contact

- Extended School Year (ESY): The Special
Education Extended School Year Services will be provided at each
Summer Semester elementary site and Roosevelt High School. Please
contact your IEP team for more information. Transportation,
Breakfast, and Lunch will be provided.
