Strategic Plan: Excellence For All

Engagement

Literally thousands of stakeholders, from within the District and throughout the community, helped shape Excellence for All. Our engagement plan, summaries of input, and opportunities to stay involved are listed in these pages.

Opportunities to stay involved

  • Upcoming meetings
    • New Student Assignment Plan - Community meetings were held in October and early November to gather opinions on what community members like about the current Student Assignment Plan, what is not working well, and what they would like to see in a plan. During November and December, a series of consultative meetings are scheduled. Information about those meetings and background information on the plan is available on the Student Assignment Plan Web site.

    • Capacity Management - North Seattle and Queen Anne/Magnolia - On October 29 a recommendation to solve short-term capacity shortages in the North and Queen Anne/Magnolia areas was presented to the Board. The Board will vote on these options at its meeting on November 12. To provide feedback, email schoolboard@seattleschools.org; mail to School Board, PO Box 34165, MS 11-010, Seattle, WA, 98134, or call the School Board office at (206) 252-0040. Sign up for public testimony on November 12 will be open at 8 a.m. on November 10 by contacting the School Board office.

  • Excellence for All - Balancing Capacity across the District - School Closure
On October 29 the School Board voted unanimously adopted a resolution directing Superintendent Goodloe-Johnson to accelerate the district's capacity management work, to include an evaluation of building closure. Additional information is available in this news release. A timeline for this process, including information about engagement and public hearings, will be announced in the near future. To provide feedback, contact the School Board as noted above.

  • Capital Levy Planning - Planning has begun for the next capital levy proposal, which is likely to be placed
on the ballot in February 2010. A series of community meetings were held in October. Presentation materials and an on-line project nomination form (Nominations due by December 1, 2008) are available on the Levy Planning Web site.

  • Briefings to School Board on Excellence for All

Engagement Protocol

  • An engagement protocol was prepared with input from many stakeholders. We received comments from the public and worked on the draft with several groups that represented key civic organizations and family-centered associations. The protocols were finalized in October.
  • Superintendent Maria L. Goodloe-Johnson made a presentation on the engagement protocols to the School Board on October 1, 2008.
