Preliminary Recommendation Announced

At a work session held on April 20, Superintendent Raj Manhas presented to the School Board a preliminary recommendation on "Reshaping Seattle Public Schools." While the discussion on school consolidation and student assignment began as a response to a projected $20 million budget gap in 2006-2007, it has transformed into a deep examination of how Seattle Public Schools can best serve its students and families so that every student succeeds. If approved by the School Board in July, the recommendation will take effect in September 2006.

This website contains the recommendation, links to data used in preparing the proposals, information about next steps, plans for community meetings and ways to provide feedback.

The preliminary recommendation includes proposals for school closure/consolidation, and changes to the student assignment plan and transportation services.
