Seattle Public School District
Tobacco Diversion Classes

Seattle Public School students who violate the District Tobacco Free Environment Policy must be referred to diversion class. These ninety-minute classes will give students an opportunity to learn the facts about tobacco including health effects, social effects, addiction, and media literacy. They will also be given the opportunity to examine their own tobacco use, reflect on their choices, and discuss possible quit methods.

NEW THIS YEAR: Tobacco Diversion Class will be offered on demand: when you find a student in violation of the policy, simply contact Lisa Sharp to schedule a class. The class can be held on any day and at any building, we are no longer requiring schools to send their students to prescheduled classes.

To sign students up for Diversion Class:

  • Contact Lisa Sharp at (206) 252-0859 to schedule the class
  • Please complete referral form and fax it to Lisa Sharp at (206) 252-0791 by 4:00pm on the day prior to class for the student to be able to participate
  • After signing the student up for the diversion class, give the student the referral form. Instruct the student to have his/her parent or guardian sign the form, and then bring the completed form to the class.
  • School will be notified of attendance, but absences from the class will be handled through the school.
