What was the
Board’s process for considering this plan?
The Board reviewed the initial student assignment
plan in March, 2009. A series of related public events to solicit
input from the Seattle community, as well as Board workshops,
followed in April and May. The Board reviewed the new student
assignment plan on June 3, 2009 and public testimony followed on
June 10, 2009. The Board approved the plan on June 17,
2009.

What if I
can’t attend a Board or a community meeting - how can I learn
more and provide input?
If you have access to Internet, you can submit comments online
or send comments to newassign@seattleschools.org.
While the volume of e-mail prevents us from guaranteeing an
individual response, we will post answers to new questions online
regularly.
You can also submit your comments in a letter

Were principals,
teachers, and school leaders given an opportunity to comment on the
plan?
Yes. And we continue to brief principals,
teachers, school leaders and other staff about the plan and are
encouraging staff feedback throughout the process.

Did you notify
the media about this plan?
Yes. And we continue to reach out to the media to
ensure they have the latest and most accurate information
possible—and are working quickly to answer any questions they
have. In addition to news releases and other information posted on
our web site, we will host media roundtables where reporters can
hear more information about the new attendance area
boundaries.
