Frequently Asked Questions - Diversity

How does this plan support the District’s goals of diversity?

Considering socioeconomic factors when drawing school boundaries at all grade levels can have a potentially beneficial impact on the diversity of a school’s population. A socioeconomic tiebreaker for assigning students to Open Choice seats at high schools can create some opportunities for greater diversity. After the second year of high school assignments under this plan, the Superintendent will report to the School Board and the public on high school demographics. Based on that analysis, a determination will be made as to whether an economic diversity tiebreaker should be instituted in a subsequent year.
