Frequently Asked Questions - Capacity

How did the boundary development process balance physical capacity with the needs of the student population?

The process used a model to calculate a building's functional capacity based on the services—such as bilingual and special education—needed to serve students within its attendance area. In the case of option schools, the model used historical data on service needs of students at each option school to project services needed, and the impact on functional capacity.
As a result, the proposed attendance area boundaries balance the need to provide space for students and the services they are likely to need.

How are capacity needs going to be met prior to BEX IV projects, particularly with regard to Jane Addams?

The plan is for Jane Addams to have 450 middle school students as a “mushroom” model, like Salmon Bay (the “mushroom” model means that there are more seats for students entering 6th grade than rising from 5th grade).
