Migrant Education Program

Programs and Services

The Migrant Education Program (MEP) in Seattle Public Schools supports migrant students and families through a number of programs and services designed for their special needs.

MEP Home Visitors > top
The home visitor makes an effort to identify migrant students as soon as they arrive in the Seattle area and enroll the students in school as soon as possible. MEP works hard to make education a family affair. Home visitors that identify and enroll migrant students form a bridge between the parents and schools. Working closely together, home visitors and parents help migrant students overcome educational barriers that may otherwise go unchallenged.

Classes start September 18, 2004.
The Saturday School is open to all migrant and bilingual students in Kindergarten through grade 12. The program runs throughout the school year. Students can get help with reading, writing, math, science, special assignments, or PASS courses.

The Migrant Program Saturday School is located at:
Aki Kurose Middle School Academy
3928 S Graham St. Room #110

PASS (Portable Assisted Study Sequence) > top

Learning packages are available for most required subjects and a variety of elective courses. Some courses are offered in both English and Spanish. Students must currently be enrolled in a school, even if they they are unable to attend classes there. The courses are free for migrant students. Secondary Education for Migrant Youth (SEMY)/PASS has more information.

The conference consists of keynote speakers and facilitated workshop sessions for both students and adult family members focusing on academic achievement and leadership of self, family, and community. Meals and childcare are provided for this day-long event.
