Weighted Staffing Standards

Seattle Public Schools is changing the method by which funds are allocated to schools. The change is from the "Weighted Student Formula" to "Weighted Staffing Standards." The change will streamline the budget process both centrally and at the schools. The School Board voted last year to move in this direction. On Sept. 5, a motion was introduced to the School Board that sets out guiding principles for the WSS model, and the Board will vote on that motion on Sept. 19.

Work is under way to develop the details of the model. The plan is to introduce a further motion on Oct. 3 with a vote scheduled for Oct. 17. A series of informational community meetings will be held prior to the vote. Watch this Web site for dates and times.
