H1N1 Flu Information - Prevention and Symptom Monitoring
Public Health - Seattle & King County has revised its guidelines related to school closures related to the H1N1 (swine) flu virus.
Public Health officials advised us that, because the flu virus appears to be mild, they will no longer recommend that schools close when there are just a few 'probable' or 'confirmed' cases of H1N1 at a school.
Based on this advice, the three schools that were ordered closed last week reopened on Tuesday, May 5. Effective Wednesday May 6 all Seattle schools are operating on a normal schedule.
This week, Public Health - Seattle & King County will provide additional check-lists for parents and guardians and school-based staff related to monitoring for flu symptoms.
Families should continue to check children for flu symptoms every morning. If your child is sick, they must stay home. If a student arrives at school sick or becomes sick during the day, we will call parents or guardians to come to school to pick up the student. Flu symptoms include fever (100 degrees Farenheit or more), sore throat, cough, runny nose, body aches, vomiting or diarrhea.

For all students, families and staff at Seattle Public Schools: Everyone is encouraged to continue prevention measures, including covering coughs and sneezes, washing hands, and staying home if you are sick. Seattle Public Schools wants to remind families, staff and students to take prevention steps to stay safe:
* Sneeze or cough into a tissue, elbow or sleeve. Throw the tissue away.
* Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze.
* Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
* If you are sick, stay home.
