Seattle Public Schools
has been the recipient of several federal grants to fund the
expansion of international schools and world languages in our
district. We are happy to share resources developed with funding
from these grants.
Magnet Schools Assistance Program Grant 1998-2001
This grant was used to fund the planning and implementation of the
district’s first international school with partial immersion
language program in Spanish and Japanese. The school was named in
honor of Superintendent John Stanford, who was a champion of the
school.
Chinese Language Program FLAP Grant 2006-2009
This grant was awarded to fund the launch of Mandarin Chinese
language programs in several elementary schools using a
content-based immersion teaching style.
