Huchoosedah Indian Education Program

About Our Programs

Huchoosedah Indian Education is a federally funded program that assists Native American, Alaskan Native, and American Indian students in Seattle Public Schools in grades K-12. We believe that the academic success of Native students is grounded in a strong sense of cultural identity and belonging.

To assist all Native students in becoming academically successful, we provide services that include:

  • After school services
  • Academic tutoring
  • Mentoring
  • Coordination of home and school needs
  • Student advocacy
  • Cultural events
  • College preparatory services

We also believe that in order to be effective in working with Native students, school district staff and teachers need to understand the accurate history of Native peoples and their unique relationship to the federal government. To accomplish this we:

  • Provide professional development
  • Model culturally relevant learning and teaching as it relates to Native learners

Huchoosedah offers opportunities for Native students and families to create community. This is done in part through our extensive partnerships with Native community based organizations.
