The Huchoosedah After-School
Program
Last year Huchoosedah began a unique after-school
program for Native American, American Indian, and Alaskan Native
students. The program was a great success and will continue this
year. It involves students in grades Kindergarten through 5th
grade. This program is funded by a grant from the City of Seattle
and provides a high quality program including homework assistance,
tutoring, cultural activities, and cultural field trips. We meet
Monday through Thursday from 3:30-5:30 at two sites: Site 1 is at
the Pearl Warren Building in a computer lab and classroom
graciously provided by the Seattle Indian Services Commission and
Site 2 will be at the Wilson Pacific Building. The Seattle Indian
Services Commission provides space for the program and the Seattle
Indian Health Board provides tutors and food.
Monday through Wednesday the program involves
homework time, tutoring, and cultural reading and writing
activities. Each Thursday we will have a guest artist, storyteller,
dancer, etc. The Seattle Indian Health Board will also work with us
at times to provide health related activities. Families in the
program also participate in culture nights twice a month. The
program is full at this time but if you would like your student on
a wait list call Janine Tillotson at 252-0692
