Seattle
Public Schools Head Start programs are for children ages three and
four. Students must reach the age of three or four by August 31
prior to enrollment. Our services include:
- A
literacy-based early childhood education program
- An
individual education plan for each child
- Door-to-door
transportation (half-day programs only)
- Programs for
students with special needs and disabilities
- Interpreter
support for children with limited English skills
- Meals and/or
snacks

in Seattle Public Schools
- The
curriculum and assessments are aligned with K-12
standards.
- Transition
to Kindergarten is easier because the child is familiar with the
school environment.
- Both parents
and children become involved in the school that the child will
attend.
- Preschool
children can attend the same school as their siblings.
- Families
have access to other resources in the school and
community.
Full-Day
Programs
Full-day
programs are offered in partnership with childcare agencies. They
are open Monday through Friday year round, except on major
holidays, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Before- and after-school care are
also provided for older elementary age siblings.
Transportation is
not provided for full-day programs. Locations
Half-Day
Programs
Half-day
programs are open Monday through Thursday during the school year.
They follow the school calendar and are closed when Seattle schools
are closed. The hours vary from school to school but are typically
8 a.m. to11:45 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.
Breakfast/snack or lunch/snack are provided. Door-to-door
transportation is provided. Locations

Our Head Start program offers many services to parents,
including:
- Home visits
to support the family's link to the child's education
- Referrals to
community resources
- Home-based
counseling services
- Career/employment
planning
- Employment
services for families involved in the Welfare to Work
Program
- Parent
education classes
- Leadership
development. Join the Policy
Council to help determine Head Start program objectives and
policies.
Financial
Assistance
Financial assistance for the full-day programs is available
through DSHS
or the City of Seattle Comprehensive Child Care
Program to help with the monthly tuition.
