These files are notes taken at the bilingual community forum on January 6, 2005. Thanks to all who participated. We will post the translated version of these notes next week. The feedback we received was very good. A strong message from the forum was that the School Board delay approval of the Five-Year Plan until more people have an opportunity to understand its contents. The Board will formally vote to delay final approval of the Five-Year Plan until April 6, 2005 at their regular meeting on January 19, 2005.

Five-Year Plan Action Plans Meeting Result-August 27, 2004

The District held a successful meeting on August 27th at Ballard High School to develop action steps for the five-year plan. About 160 people worked hard to help the District develop these action plans. Their work is very much appreciated and is reflected in this document. The work done on August 27th is italicized. These action plans will be reviewed, refined, and completed by District staff prior to final adoption of the five-year plan in November. Because the five-year plan work is very inclusive and includes so many action steps, the work will be spread over a five-year time period. It is not possible to accomplish all of the work in the first year of the plan. During the next few weeks the Board of Directors will decide which strategies and actions are highest priority and will be accomplished at the beginning of the five year plan.

Thanks again to all those who helped with the action plans. Please use the five-year plan discussion board to register comments about the five-year plan.

At a June 7, 2004 school leader's meeting, principals and program managers provided input into the five year plan. The group comments are reflected in the document. First Community Engagement Event: April 17, 2004

On April 17, about 70 community members came together for a day to explore four of the key issues that must be addressed as a Five-Year Plan is developed. The event provided an opportunity for School Board members, Superintendent Manhas, and members of the District's senior leadership team to listen as a representative group of constituents discussed issues of equity, financial sustainability, resource allocation, and effective leadership. Participants were provided with a briefing paper that includes key data on these topics. Attendees included parents, students, leaders of community-based organizations, representatives of local government and the business community, and members of advocacy organizations.

All ideas and recommendations were recorded. The transcribed information is available in this document, Community_Comments_April_17_Meeting.pdf.

This information will be considered as a DRAFT Five Year Plan is developed.
