GROUNDS
Providing safe and well-maintained outdoor
school environments for Seattle's children
The
Grounds Department maintains 100 sites with 12 gardeners and 1
equipment operator. Each gardener is assigned between 5 to 14
sites of the grounds maintenance, depending on the acreage of
those sites.
The
community of Seattle is supporting District gardeners to meet the
schools deferred maintenance program in several
ways. Many neighbors, businesses, teachers, parents and
students are participating in volunteer work projects to improve
school grounds throughout Seattle. National and local
organizations, City of Seattle, King County, Washington State and
private contributions are providing funding to help with these
improvements. These projects range from picking up litter to
maintaining new sports complexes.
Through these
volunteer projects, the Grounds Department is implementing
Maintenance procedures to help protect our "Eco-System".
