CUSTODIAL SERVICES

Grounds * Resource Conservation

CUSTODIAL SERVICES:  Custodial Services provides a clean and comfortable physical learning environment for the children in the Seattle Public Schools and the surrounding community.

Custodial Services is responsible for the day to day cleaning of approximately 7,500,000 square feet of the buildings in the Seattle Public Schools. Custodians operate and maintain all heating and ventilation systems, provide support to school site staff and perform minor maintenance when possible.  Custodial support is provided for community and Parks Department functions.

GROUNDS:   The Grounds Department maintains 100 properties and approximately 500 acres for the Seattle Public Schools.  They assist and participate in community volunteer work projects to improve school grounds.

RECYCLING:   The Seattle Public Schools has been recycling since 1989 and formally instituted a Comprehensive Waste Reduction, Prevention and Recycling Program for all of its sites and departments in 1992.

RESOURCE CONSERVATION:  Energy Conservation & Water Conservation are actively promoted in the Seattle Public Schools. Conserving resources saves money, reduces pollution, and preserves natural resources.  Conserving resources can be summed up in five words:  Use Only What You Need!
