A new student assignment plan will go into effect
for September 2010, beginning with entry grade students. Students
will receive an initial assignment based on where they live.
Students may also apply to attend another school during Open
Enrollment next spring (March 2010).
Attendance area boundaries are being developed,
with Board action on the new boundaries anticipated on November 18.
After boundaries are approved, a transition plan for the first year
of implementation (2010-11) will be developed.
More information about the new student assignment
plan is available here.
Early Registration will not have any impact on
your child's school assignment for next year. However, we
encourage families who will have a new student entering Seattle
Public Schools next year to participate in the early registration
process.
This is offered as a convenience for families,
enabling you to get a lot of the registration "paperwork" out of
the way ahead of time. Students who register early will receive
specific information from the District about assignments for
2010-11. (We anticipate sending this information out in February,
prior to the March Open Enrollment period.)
Please note: Because the transition plan
has not yet been developed for the first year's implementation of
the new student assignment plan in 2010-11, we are not taking early
sibling applications this year. This does not imply anything one
way or the other about the issue of "grandfathered" kindergarten
students. That issue will be addressed in the transition plan, to
be developed after Board action on the attendance area boundaries
(scheduled for November 18, 2009).
