Eliminating the Achievement Gap

Testwise: An Overview

Purpose:

To provide coaching for 4th, 7th , and 10th graders in seven identified schools on test "wiseness." The coaching will focus on not only test-taking strategies, but also attitude, confidence and students' overall approach to the test.
 
Coach-Student Ratio: 1-5
   
Coaches: Graduate students, building-based staff as identified by the principal (e.g., Gear-Up Counselors, AmeriCorps Tutors, volunteers, etc.)
   
Coaches? Time
Commitment:
40 hours between November 15 and April 30. These 40 hours include training meetings, debriefs and time with students.
   
Coaching Time: 8 hours per month (daytime, after-school and/or Saturday camps)
   
Pay for Coaches: Coaches will be paid. Persons who work for Seattle Public Schools will be paid for all time outside of the regular work day.
