Overview
World Language Adoption for grades 6-12
Seattle Public Schools will adopt instructional materials for
French and Japanese for Levels 1-4
Applications for the Adoption Committee were sent to all middle
schools, K-8 and high schools that offered French and/or
Japanese. There were two applications – one for staff
and the other for parents/community members. Requests were also
sent to a community college, higher education, and the ELL, Special
Education, Advanced Learning departments.
The Adoption Committee consists of representatives from all
middle schools and high schools that agreed to send teachers.
A few schools declined participation. The committee has
school administrators, parents, higher education representatives
and the World Language Supervisor from the Office of the
Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI).
The committee met on November 13, 2009 and created the Criteria
for Selection and a Communication Plan. Both documents will
be presented to the Instructional Materials Committee (IMC) on
December 8, 2009 for approval. Then they will be posted on
this site.
The Instructional Materials Specialist at the JSCEE will contact
publishers about instructional materials for the Adoption Committee
to consider. The materials will include textual and non
textual materials that will support and supplement the curriculum
alignment and the World Language Standards.
