Exploratory Internship Program (XIP) | Transition Success Program | Career Ladders

WBL programs for students with special needs

Exploratory Internship Program (XIP)

  1. Students are referred to the Exploratory Internship Program (XIP) by the building Pre-vocational Advisor or IEP teacher.
  2. The referrals are sent to the XIP Coordinator at the Dept. of Career and Technical Education.
  3. The coordinator checks compliance files. When all the necessary paperwork is turned in students are placed in XIP classes.

Transition Success Program

  1. Transition Success (TS) instructors meet with seniors at the school site to inform them about the Transition Success Program.
  2. Their IEP teacher refers IEP students who meet all graduation requirements, except for the vocational component, to the Transition Success Program.
  3. Students meet individually with a TS instructor at one of the three Seattle community college sites.

Career Ladders

  1. Career Ladders (CL) currently schedules a meeting at the Career Center for juniors and seniors at Garfield and Franklin High Schools who are interested in a community based internship.
  2. Students meet with their counselors to place CL into their class schedule.
  3. Students complete applications and are placed at internship sites.
