School Support and Services

Work-based Learning (WBL) Support

  1. A determination needs to be made as to:
    • What type of work-based learning (WBL) activity, or activities, students are to be engaged in (i.e., classroom speakers [workplace], mentor models, blended workplace tour/job shadows, internships).
    • Whether activity, or activities, is school driven or individual teacher driven.
  2. Contact WBL Program Supervisor.
  3. If the activity is classroom/individual teacher driven, the WBL Program Supervisor, or staff, can coach the teacher on the following:
    • Referral to the WBL Handbook (on-line or hardcopy), which has information and / or mini handbooks on each WBL activity.
    • Processes/procedures for each type of activity; master copies of forms required for each activity; and, to a lesser extent, contacts/non-financial resources.
  4. If the activity is building driven, and relates to internships, see Internships.
  5. If the activity is building driven and relates to the development of a WBL Instructor position, discussions and decisions need to be made regarding budget for the position. Once the decision has been made on funding for the position, CTE support can be given on teacher certification (if necessary); hiring process; curriculum materials; and on-going teacher training, mentoring, and support.
  6. If the activity is a building-wide activity, to the extent possible, WBL staff will provide support in the areas of processes/procedures, brainstorming, and/or resources.
