School Support and Services

Advisory Boards

  1. Determine specific interest in the school and obtain principal / Instructional Council endorsement and building approval.
  2. Contact Academy Coordinator for assistance.
  3. Determine the focus (career or major) of the Academy with special attention to integration across disciplines and special needs students.
  4. Determine if an existing Academy Board is already established in this pathway.
  5. Contact the Academy Coordinator for current advisory board information and to set up a discussion group with an existing advisory chair to explore the possibility of sharing an existing board. New members who will represent your specific program / school would also need to be involved.
  6. If developing a new Advisory Board, the Academy Coordinator will assist in gathering interested school staff, school administration, and community business partners to discuss this academy. Invite interested persons to a meeting to introduce your academy and brainstorm potential members for the board. From this meeting, ask people attending to make contacts with those suggested names and / or businesses who are potential members for the advisory board.
  7. Cultivate an interested community partner to be the Advisory Board Chair.
  8. Facilitate a follow up meeting for the purpose of sharing the contact results and adding more contact names.
  9. Advisory Board Chair meets with staff and Academy Coordinator to:
    • Set up first meeting date, membership roster, and the purpose of the academy.
    • Determine the program goals, scope, and financial support that is needed for the Academy.
    • Decide on the expectations for board members including length of service.
  10. At the first meeting, share the vision of the Academy, its goals and expectations, and various opportunities for Academy Board members, so that they can determine their level of involvement.– sub committees: job shadows, speakers, mentors, internships, finances, and curriculum enhancement, planning, involvement, and evaluation.
  11. Select a recorder / secretary to take minutes and distribute them to the board via email.
  12. Determine the meeting dates and times.
  13. Cultivate and nurture on-going relationships with business partners, district personnel, and students
  14. Meet with Alliance for Education program managers to coordinate efforts
  15. The pathways specialist and Academy Coordinator assist with all of the above.
