Course Title:  Sign Language Interpreter ASL 1A & 1B

Students enter a silent world and prepare for beginning level of first semester of a one year (2 Semester) course.  In ASL 1A, students learn the language, its vocabulary, finger spelling, gain an awareness and understanding of the deaf culture and are introduced to interpreting skills and careers.

In ASL 1B, the second semester of a one year (2 semester) course, students learn the language, its vocabulary and grammatical structure, and begin to learn and use conversational skills with other populations and the deaf community. Vocabulary development and exposure to the deaf culture will be expanded with interpreting skills, communication with Deaf/Hard of Hearing students, and self-evaluation using videotaping.

Course Title: Sign Language Interpreter ASL 2A & 2B

Become a proficient signer. Learn sentence types, phrasing, cultural and historical origins, vocabulary, body language, and applied careers in Audiology, interpreting, and teaching. Sign Language Interpreter ASL 2A is a continuation of ASL 1A and 1B.

Sign Language Interpreter ASL 2B is the second semester of a one-year/two-semester course sequence. This class is limited to students who have successfully completed (with a ''C'' or better) ASL 2A.

Course Title: Sign Language Interpreter ASL 3A & 3B

Students are expected to adhere to the "no voicing" format established in ASL 2. Everyday conversational behaviors will be achieved using natural and direct methods and through meaningful context, modeling, observation, student participation, quizzes and imagination generated by the teacher and the class. Continuation of Sign Language Interpreter ASL 2B.

Sign Language Interpreter ASL 3B focuses on expressive skills, receptive skills, as well as expanding on the cultural values, behaviors, attitudes and job possibilities within the deaf community.
