Course Title: Computer Integra Manu 1 & 2

This course builds upon the computer solid modeling skills developed in Introduction to Engineering Design. Students will use computer controlled rapid prototyping and CNC equipment to solve problems by constructing actual models of their three-dimensional designs. Students will also be introduced to the fundamentals of robotics and how this equipment is used in an automated manufacturing environment. Students will evaluate their design solution using various techniques of analysis, and make appropriate modifications before producing their prototypes.

Course Title: Eng Design & Dev 1 & 2

The fifth course of the Project Lead the Way (Pre-Engineering) Program is a course where students will work in teams of two to four to design and construct the solution to an engineering problem (original, taken from a database of problems, or a national challenge), applying the principles developed in the four preceding courses. Students will maintain a journal as part of a portfolio of their work. Each team will be responsible for delivering progress reports and making final presentations of their project to an outside review panel. The completed portfolio will be invaluable as students apply to college.

This course begins with an introduction to the game development industry, the game development process, and game engines.  It covers JavaScript and Web programming and illustrates multiple concepts including variables, loops, and arrays.  The course brings together all the concepts learned to build several two dimensional games.

Course Title: Intro Engineering Design 1 & 2

Students will work from sketching simple geometric shapes to applying a solid modeling computer software package. They will learn a problem solving design process and how it is used in industry to manufacture a product. The Computer Aided Design System (CAD) will also be used to analyze and evaluate the product design. The techniques learned, and equipment used, are state-of-the-art and are currently being used by engineers throughout the United States.

Course Title: Law and Justice Studies 1, 2, 3, & 4

The Law and Justice Studies course will provide a practical understanding of the criminal justice system that will be of use to students in their everyday lives. The course is designed to prepare students to successfully enter beginning careers in law enforcement and/or enter a program at community college or other institutions offering courses with similar prerequisites and objectives. The students will explore various functions of law enforcement agencies, the courts and administration of Justice and Correctional process. It is designed to provide the student with exposure to the many vocational opportunities that exist within the legal system. Law and Justice Studies is a 360-hour, two-hour per day course. This course is open to 11th and 12th graders with the approval of the instructor. This course continues to prepare individuals to perform the duties of police and public security officers, including patrol and investigative activities, traffic control, crowd control and public relations, witness interviewing, evidence collection and management, basic crime prevention methods, equipment operation and maintenance, report preparation, and other routine law enforcement responsibilities.

Manufacturing Tech Intro is an Introductory Course in Manufacturing Technology. This course will study the shaping, forming, joining of plastics, wood, metal, ceramics. Students will learn the Industrial Standard of measuring, teaming and safety.

Course Title: Maritime Program 1, 2, 3, and 4

The course is a semester-long introduction to the various marine-related industries in Puget Sound and elsewhere. The class will explore how the successful maritime industry developed in Seattle, with a focus on Ballard, and where the industry is headed in the next century. The course is taught as a project-based curriculum, where the students combine classroom lessons with real-life examples of problems in a marine industry. The students are introduced to a broad spectrum of career opportunities in maritime fields through guest speakers, field trips and problem-solving scenarios. Because of the unique design of the course, students will be required to take thorough notes, participate in classroom activities and field trips, and present information orally to prove they have an understanding of the content material.

The first semester of this four semester course is designed to give students an introduction to basic computer maintenance and repair. T&I Technical Services will focus on preventative maintenance, safety issues, troubleshooting techniques and basic hardware and software installations. This course will also prepare the student for Technical Services 2, that will focus on technical services soft skills, e.g., effective communication skills, problem analysis and solving skills, project management, customer service skills, self management/interpersonal relationship skills and record keeping. The Building Construction Trades program is offered to students utilizing a two-hour per day block of time. It is designed to give students an opportunity to experience work in some twenty crafts related to the building trades.
