Course Title: Applied Math 1A

Applied Math 1A is the first semester of a two-semester, year long mathematics course recommended for students who learn best by a hands-on approach emphasizing practical applications and those interested in an Applied Academics, Tech Prep or Vocational Career Path. Students will develop mathematical reasoning and communications skills emphasizing problem-solving, self-management and team-management abilities through a coordinated series of activities. The topical areas covered include basic math and calculator skills, naming numbers in different ways (e.g., fractions, decimals and percents), and using metric and English measuring tools. These activities emphasize both cooperative learning and individual responsibility.

Course Title: Applied Math 2A

Applied Math 2A is the first semester of a two-semester, year long mathematics course. The topical areas covered in the first semester of the course will include a review of selected topics from the first year course: typically, Figures in Two and Three Dimensions; Ration and Proportion; Scale Drawings; Communication Skills both oral and written, individually and as team members; Using Signed Numbers and Vectors; Using Scientific Notation; Understanding Precision, Accuracy and Tolerance; Solving Problems with Powers and Roots; Using Formulas to Solve Problems, and Solving Problems that Involve Linear Equations.
